In 1978, when the city of Mezhdurechensk turned 18 years old, the bureau of the CPSU and the executive committee of the city Council of People’s Deputies decided to create a local history museum. The museum was opened on June 25, 1980, at the House of Pioneers. In 1995, the former premises of the House of Pioneers were completely transferred to the museum.
Renovation and decoration of the exhibition halls began. From 2000 to 2004, the halls of “Military Glory”, “Social Sphere”, “Construction and Industry”, “Ethnography and Geology” were opened one by one, as well as the hall, the cloakroom, the vestibule, and the exit to the avenue.
In 2013, the “Military Glory” hall was opened in a separate location at 1, Komarova Street. The entire “Military Glory” moved to the new building, and the “Russian Izba” exhibition was installed at the former address.
The main spheres of the museum’s work include the development of local history research as a special form of science and education, various thematic projects, traveling exhibitions, joint exhibitions with collectors and craftsmen, excursions, tourism, and publishing.
The museum successfully participates in project
activities every year and has won several grants at various levels.
