The exhibition “Chelyabinsk Collection of Russian Art” displays the original paintings of both Russian artists and foreign artists who worked in Russia. The exhibits allow to trace the development of painting from the 18th century up to the early 20th century. It houses one of the very first secular portraits, the parsuna of Alexander Nevsky, as well as chest-length semi-ceremonial portraits and intimate portraits created in the 18th century. At the exhibition, one can see the exclusive self-portrait of Dmitry Levitsky, an opinionated copy of the portrait of the Empress Catherine II created by the Austrian artist Johann Lampi, a ceremonial portrait of the Empress Elizabeth Alexeyevna by the French painter Jean-Laurent Mosnier. Also among the exhibits are landscapes by Ivan Shishkin, Isaac Levitan, Ivan Aivazovsky, and genre works of the Wanderers [Peredvizhniki].
