СNowadays, Kyakhta occupies a strategic position on the international trade routes of the Eurasian Economic Union — the Great Tea Road and the Silk Road. The exhibition explores the importance of Russian-Chinese trade, Russia’s connection with East Asian countries, and the settlement of the vast territory of Transbaikalia.
International trade influenced the development of local infrastructure, production, and everyday culture. The exhibition includes the following sections: “Tea Road”, “A Merchant’s Living Room”, and “Kyakhta’s Beauty and Elegance”.
The museum houses a collection of photos illustrating the tea trade, views of Troitskosavsk, Kyakhta, and Maimaicheng, and photos showing the everyday routine of merchant families.
The museum also features such fascinating exhibits as a collection of tea samples, a 1745 seal, samovars, and other items of merchant life, including a German grand piano, paintings, furniture, European and Chinese porcelain, and products made of ivory, silver, and red lacquer wood.
Exhibits are marked with AR stickers for identification purposes.
