The exhibition focuses on the life and work of Pyotr Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky, the first European to explore the Tyan–Shan mountain system, and to initiate the era of scientific conquest of Central Asia. He received an addendum to his surname “Tyan-Shansk” because he described the Tyan–Shan mountains.
The exhibition is dedicated to the scientist’s long-term work in the Imperial Russian Geographical Society, his travels, public service and scientific works. It allows you to learn the history of the Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky family: from Pyotr Petrovich himself up to the present day.
Also, part of the exhibition is an art gallery of paintings by the scientist’s granddaughter, the artist Vera Semyonova-Tyan-Shanskaya, and works by modern masters.
Exhibits are marked with AR stickers for identification purposes.
