The exhibition of the Onega Historical and Memorial Museum is dedicated to the northern maritime industry, famous Onega sailors and polar explorers. Some of the prominent personalities whose life is presented in the museum are Alexander Stepanovich Kuchin, a navigator, captain, oceanographer, and Antarctic and Arctic explorer, and Pavel Akimovich Ponomaryov who was the first captain of the Lenin nuclear-powered ship and participated in rescuing some of the crew members of the Italia airship in 1928.
The new museum hall is
dedicated to history. Visitors can learn about expeditions, winter and summer activities,
icebreakers, and the Onega seaport. The collection includes rare exhibits such
as personal belongings of Alexander Kuchin, the uniform of Alexander Shabalin, twice
Hero of the Soviet Union, various nautical instruments (compasses, a sextant, a
log), old fishing rods, and other items related to maritime life, including
traditional Pomor clothing.
Exhibits are marked with AR stickers for identification purposes.
