The museum’s permanent exhibition consists of several sections. The Hall of Nature introduces visitors to the animal and plant life of the region, and the history of exploration of Kamchatka’s natural resources. The second hall shows the regional ancient history based on the archeological collection that spans from the first human settlements in Kamchatka, which appeared 14 thousand years ago, to the 18th century.
The next section of the museum exhibition is devoted to the material and spiritual culture of the indigenous people of Kamchatka: Itelmens, Koryaks and small-numbered peoples of the North, Aleuts and Evens. After that, visitors can explore the history of the discovery and the joining of Kamchatka to the Russian state, the great geographical discoveries that influenced the development of the region, as well as the history of the creation and development of the Russian-American Company.
A separate section of the exhibition is
dedicated to the history of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky including the city’s
defense against the Anglo-French squadron in 1854. The museum’s permanent
exhibition covers the timeline from antiquity to the early 20th century.
