In 1911, on the initiative of Vasily Vlyayevich Perfiliev, the governor of Kamchatka region, and local intellectuals, the Regional Scientific and Industrial Museum was founded. The institution was housed in the building of the Kamchatka Region Governor’s Office.
The museum has a large collection of more than 123 thousand unique exhibits on the history of the region. The collections include items on archeology, ethnography of indigenous peoples of Kamchatka, rare books of the 17th–21st centuries, paintings and graphic works of local artists, as well as memorial collections. The Kamchatka Regional United Museum studies Kamchatka’s nature and history, as well as the culture of the peoples living on its territory.
