The exhibition “History of the Town and the Fleet” reflects the most important stages of the development of the town and the fleet in Polyarny from ancient times to the present day. The exhibits are divided into several thematic sections.
Visitors can get acquainted with the ancient history of the region and examine the finds from the ancient Kola Oleneostrovsky grave field, located near the town of Polyarny. The local flora and fauna is presented in the section “Flora and Fauna of the Kola Peninsula”. The ethnographic collection gives an idea of the life and crafts of the Pomors living on the coast of the White Sea and the Barents Sea. In the section “Science on the Murman”, visitors will learn about the history of researching the Northern Sea Route and scientific institutions. the origins of which go back to times when the town was called Alexandrovsk. A significant part of the main exhibition of the museum is occupied by the hall “Military in Polyarny”, where one can see photographs, documents, personal belongings and awards of Severomorsk sailors who defended the northern borders of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War. The residential interior of the 1960s, where household items of that period are presented, gives an idea of the life of the townsfolk during the post-war period. The following sections explore the lives of local workers and the history of the town’s development: “The History of the 10th Ship Repair Plant”, “The History of Educational Institutions in Polyarny”, and “The History of the 4th Squadron of Diesel Submarines of the Northern Fleet”. The modern times are reflected in the exhibition dedicated to the Red Banner Kola Flotilla of the diverse forces of the Northern Fleet.
