The permanent historical exposition of the Velikiye Luki Museum of Local Lore opened for the 850th anniversary of the city. In the central hall of the museum, you can see many exhibits representing the history of this place, from the first inhabitants to the present day. The exposition is divided into themes, including the development of the territory in the Neolithic and Iron Age, the foundation and development of the city in the Middle Ages, local and world wars, the life of townspeople in the USSR.
The rarest exhibits include a mammoth tibia, five-thousand-year-old tools, rare silver dirhams, a copy of a page of the older edition of the Novgorod First Chronicle with the first mention of Velikiye Luki. And also firearms from three wars, personal belongings of Velikiye Luki residents, and many historical records.
