In 2018, on the day of the 850th anniversary of the town of Gorokhovets, a museum exhibition dedicated to the archaeological heritage of the Gorokhovets district was inaugurated in the 17th-century merchant chambers.
Here visitors can learn about the very first Neolithic settlements in these lands and see a collection of stone axes, flint spearheads, and arrows.
The museum reveals the secrets of the archaeological site called Lysaya Gora and provides information about the first archaeological research on the Gorokhovets land led by the famous scientist Otto Nikolayevich Bader.
The exhibition describes the ancient settlement on the site of Nikolskaya Gora, where the town was founded in the mid-12th century, and Puzhalova Gora, where a complex of burial mounds of Kievan Rus was discovered.
The exhibition also demonstrates the finds of archaeologists of the 20th century and the results of the last Gorokhovets expedition organized between 2015 and 2018 by the Archaeology Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Exhibits are marked with AR stickers for identification purposes.
