The ethnography hall in the Tuymazy Regional History Museum is dedicated to the way of life led by the various peoples who are native to the Republic of Bashkortostan. Here you can see historic costumes that were worn by the Baskir, Chuvash, Mari, Udmurt and Russian peoples on special occasions and learn about their traditional cultures — for example, you can learn why Bashkir women wore several kilograms of coins, and why candles were not used for lighting in Russian peasants’ cottages. The ethnography hall also houses a display of antique furniture and many traditional agricultural instruments and tools used for various crafts. More modern versions of many of these tools are still used on a day-to-day basis, but some of them are extremely rare and their use is a mystery to all but historians and people with a special interest in vintage technology.
