The Tuymazy Regional History Museum was founded in 1973 and was originally housed in a small shed-like building. In 1980 the museum moved to one of the oldest brick buildings in the city — the former State Bank building. In the course of its history, the museum has assembled a collection of unique exhibits, many of them centuries old. The exhibits are grouped in a number of different subject areas, from ethnographic displays devoted to the history of the peoples of the region and a collection of military and regional exhibits to a display of ‘Flora and fauna of the Republic of Bashkortostan’, which is particularly popular with small children and school groups. The museum also hosts touring exhibitions and lectures on various subjects and specialists from the museum lead excursions around Tuymazy and organize exhibitions in other locations.
