The exhibition “Archaeology of the Kursk region” presents unique and most interesting exhibits, which clearly tell the story of different tribes and cultures of the modern Kursk region from the Stone Age to the reign of the first tsars of the Romanov dynasty.
The history of the Kursk region replete with vibrant events, just as the region itself is abundantly rich in archaeological monuments of past eras. Traces of almost all eras of human history have been preserved on the Kursk land: the Stone Age sites of primitive hunters and gatherers of the Paleolithic, mounds of the Bronze Age, remnants of ancient settlements on steep headlands and settlements in the floodplains of rivers. In these lands, the paths of the most different tribes and peoples crossed. Some came as conquerors and left only smoldering fires, others lived on this land for centuries and considered the banks of the Seym and Psyol rivers their native land. But all of them have contributed to the history of both the Kursk region and our entire country.
At the exhibition, visitors can also learn about the contribution of the staff members of the Kursk State Regional Museum of Archeology to the studies of the history of the Kursk land: they actively conduct research work, hold thematic scientific conferences, with the participation of archaeologists and historians from various research and educational centers.
