The handbook was developed for the classroom use in order to improve understanding and memorizing of school subjects. A.F. Andronov left a detailed rationale describing the effectiveness of his method. While cutting out coloured paper fragments of the object they studied, children managed to perceive it, memorize its shape, size, the ratio of its parts to the whole through their movements. By collecting and sticking the fragments on a piece of cardboard, students assembled the object, and then they could decorate the class with their own works.
Four editions were published based on this method: the first experience, botany, zoology, and introduction to geography.
