Lev Yashin is an international, as well as Soviet, football legend. He is the only goalkeeper in history to win the Ballon d’Or, annual European Footballer of the Year award, in 1963.Yashin also holds another unique football record. He spent 22 seasons in a single club, Dynamo Moscow. Even when he played for the national team he still had a D on his jersey.

It is also a fact that one time the legendary goalkeeper put on the captain’s armband of a Turkish team as he led its players to the field. This happened on July 2, 1967 when the Turkish national team played in Istanbul against Galatasaray, a local club. The match was organized to celebrate the retirement from sport of Turgay Sabit Şeren, a famous Turkish goalkeeper.
