Alexander Baturov’s landscape called “At the Bottom of the Sayan Mountains” is presented in the collection of the Memorial Complex of Glory named after Akhmad Kadyrov. The artist painted it in 2010.
The foreground shows two horses in a steppe — an adult and a teenage foal. Behind them, there is a winding bed of a small river and bushes growing along its banks.
In the background of the painting, there are several mountains of the Sayan range. Some of them are entirely covered with vegetation from the foot to the top.
The Sayan mountain range is divided into two systems — Eastern and Western Sayan. Both are located in the south of Eastern Siberia, on the Krasnoyarsk Territory, in Buryatia, Tyva, Khakassia, Mongolia. Now there are many places in Sayan where the taiga nature has been preserved. There are two nature reserves — “Sayano-Shushensky” and “Krasnoyarsk Pillars”. Bears, foxes, wolverines, sables, lynxes are among the animals living in those territories. In the ravines, there are snow leopards — a rare species of large feline predators. Valuable fish species live in mountain lakes: taimen, burbot, grayling, whitefish, pike.
The Sayan Mountains attract climbers, both professionals and amateurs. Munku-Sardyk became one of the most popular places among them. Several climbing routes of varying difficulty run through this mountain — for beginners and those who have climbed similar peaks more than once.
In the painting “At the Bottom of the Sayan Mountains”, Alexander Baturov depicted one of the usual landscapes of his homeland — the Republic of Buryatia. The artist was born on October 26, 1950, in the village of Maly Dulan, Kabansky district. At the age of 21, he applied to the Art and Graphics department of the Music and Pedagogical College in Blagoveshchensk. From 1980 to 1985, Alexander Baturov received another education — at the Krasnoyarsk State Art Institute, at the Interior and Equipment department. Then the painter worked in the Art and Production workshops of the Buryatia’s Artists Union. Since 1985, he has participated in republican, All-Union, and All-Russian exhibitions.
