Viktor Veniaminovich Tryastsin used social topics for his works: he created portraits of government figures, paintings depicting the first Komsomol construction projects, heroes of labor, and workers of the Virgin Lands campaign. However, the Ural nature attracted him most of all.

In the mid-20th century, the artist saw the Chusovaya River for the first time. He was captivated by its beauty. From that moment on, Tryastsin spent his time on its banks from April to October every year. He drew a lot from nature and took photographs. He would later turn his sketches into paintings in the workshop. In 1987, Viktor Tryastsin bought a house in the village of Kyn, located in the valley of the Kyn River at its confluence with the Chusovaya. The artist moved there with his wife and children. During this period, he was at the height of his activity.

Viktor Tryastsin was called the singer of the Chusovaya River. Many of the artist’s paintings were dedicated to natural landmarks, picturesque places, and rocks located along the riverbanks. Tryastsin is the only artist who has depicted all the cliffs of the Chusovaya River: Ostryak, Multyk, Vorobei, Denezhkin, Pechka, Stolby, and others.

The Chusovaya River can boast ancient history and beautiful nature, it is the left tributary of the Kama and one of the most famous rivers of the Urals. Its total length is 592 kilometers. The Chusovaya begins in Asia, crosses the Ural Mountains, and then flows into Europe. Most of its path goes through the territory of Sverdlovsk Oblast. Numerous rare plants grow in the river valley, many of them are listed in the Red Book. The river also has some wildlife.

There are about 70 small villages and only four cities situated along the Chusovaya. The beauty of the river fascinates artists, writers, and tourists. Since the mid-20th century, it has been the most popular river for rafting. The painting shows some rafting tourists.

Viktor Tryastsin’s work captures one of the most magnificent views of the Chusovaya with its green forests and calm surface reflecting the bright rays of the summer sun. The majestic pillars of the Stolby cliff rise above the ground. This cliff presents a range of rocks and is located on the left bank, less than a kilometer from the Pisanyi rock and the Demidov stone cross. The height of the rocks varies between 20 and 50 meters, and each is about a kilometer long on average. Some pillars stand separately and have bizarre outlines. This cliff has the status of a natural landmark.
