The icon “Savior the Almighty” is painted in warm golden-brown tones, without excessive details. The only decoration is the rich pattern of the Savior’s robes and the stylized pattern of the inner frame. Behind His back, on the left side, there is a fragment of a rectangular scarlet object — the Lord Almighty is often depicted in iconography on the throne as the Judge. Probably, this element is also present in this composition. Christ is depicted from the front point of view, and His sad face is turned to those who pray. In His left hand He holds the Gospel of Matthew with the text of verse 28, chapter 11:

This can be interpreted as a plea to reject vanity and the burden of sin and follow the path of Christian commandments. Different versions feature the text either in the form of a scroll or in the form of a codeх — the way modern books look like. The book may be open or closed. Along the lower edge of the composition, the icon painter depicted a light-colored strip with the following signature: “The Image of the Lord Almighty” with the traditional abbreviation under the title of the second word as “Г˜да.”
The image of Savior the Almighty (or Pantocrator that can be translated from Greek as “almighty, all-powerful”) is the central image in the iconography of Christ. In Byzantium, early icons featuring Christ the Almighty appeared around the 5th century. The concept of “the Almighty” expresses the basic idea that Christ is equal (consubstantial) in everything to the Father — the Creator of the world.
The icon “Savior the Almighty” occupies a special place in the temple. The image is used both in icons and in church murals. Most often, it can be seen in the lower row of the iconostasis or under the dome. Traditionally, the image of Christ the Almighty occupies the space of the central dome of an Orthodox church.
