The model of the monument to Queen Louise by sculptor Pavel Ignatiev is a scaled-down copy of the monument by Professor Gustav Eberlein of the Royal Prussian Academy of Arts. The copy is made of white plaster, while the original is made of white Carrara marble. It was unveiled on September 22, 1900 in Jacobsruhe Park in the presence of Emperor William II. The three-meter-high statue stood on a five-meter pedestal: Louise, crowned with a diadem, holding a flowing cloak with her left hand and a bouquet of cornflowers in her right hand. In the 1950s, the monument to the Prussian queen was destroyed and a plaster sculpture of an athlete was erected on the surviving pedestal, but it was demolished after a while. The place where the majestic monument was once located was abandoned for a long time.

The idea of restoring the monument was realized in the framework of the project “Building the tourist route: From the Tilsit Peace Treaty of 1807 to the Convention of Tauroggen.” The project is a result of joint work of Tilsit and its Lithuanian partner city Tauragė within the framework of the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI) cross-border cooperation program of Lithuania, Poland and Russia.

The sculpture of Queen Louise was the work of Pavel Ignatiev and Denis Prasolov, expert restorers from the “Naslеdie” studio in St. Petersburg. Since plaster models of the German sculpture have not survived, the craftsmen had to recreate the figure from scratch on the basis of iconographic material, that is, relying exclusively on historical photographs and postcards. The pedestal of the monument made of natural marble was commissioned from France. The smaller plaster model of the new monument was given to the Museum of the History of the city of Sovetsk by the sculptor Pavel Ignatiev personally.

The pedestal of the new monument is made of marble blocks, and the sculpture itself is made of a mixture of special resins and ground marble. Thanks to modern technology, the monument is resistant to environmental exposure. The monument is surrounded by a wrought iron fence and illumination.

The inauguration of the new monument in the city park took place on July 6, 2014, as part of the celebration of the 207th anniversary of the Tilsit Peace Treaty. A commemorative medal was issued to mark the occasion.
