This stand is dedicated to Nikolai Shlyukhin, a Soviet oilman and prominent business figure. He was born into the family of a volost clerk assistant in the village of Novo-Troitskoye in the Oktyabrsky District of the Chkalovsk Region (present-day Orenburg Region) on February 22, 1914. In 1928, his family moved to the BashkIr village of MeleUz. That same year, young ShlyUkhin enrolled in the Meleuz Pedagogical College. Upon graduation, he continued his studies at the Drilling Department of the Sterlitamak Oil College. In 1936, he became one of its first graduates.
From 1936 to 1937 Shlyukhin first worked as a drill worker, assistant driller, and driller in the crew of foreman M.S. Platonov, and then as an equipment technician at the drilling office of the Bashneft trust company in the Ishimbay worker’s settlement. In 1938, he decided to continue his studies and became a student at the Petroleum Department of Kirov’s Baku Industrial Academy, which he was unable to finish due to the start of the Great Patriotic War. In 1941–1946, he was a senior engineer and head of the pipe control shop of a drilling office of the Ishimbayneft trust company, and from 1946 to 1968, he was the director of the entire enterprise. In 1970–1974, he headed the drilling operations department of Ishimbay.
Over the course of 24 years under Shlyukhin’s management, the office discovered 40 oil and gas fields, including Tsvetaevskoye, Burunovskoye, Tereklinskoye, Grachevskoye, Voskresenskoye, Kartashovskoye, and Kanchurinskoye fields. Under his leadership, the office made great efforts to fit its drilling rigs that had previously been powered by boiler units with diesel and electric motors, as well as to test and introduce new types of drilling rigs, including Uralmash-3D and Uralmash-5D. He did much to improve the working and living conditions of the drillers: he initiated the reorganization of rotational transport and the construction of boiler rooms, accommodation units, and portable panel houses.
Shlyukhin also paid much attention to providing the drilling personnel with training and improving their professional skills. He was elected a member of the Ishimbay City Council on multiple occasions and received merit pension of the Russian Soviet Republic. In 1974, he was listed in the Book of Honor of the Ministry of Oil Industry of the Soviet Union. Shlyukhin’s awards included the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and the Badge of Honor, as well as numerous Soviet medals.
