The foreground of the picture is completely taken by water. On water, there is a crooked line of nine sailboats, some of them with their sails hoisted. The ones closest to the viewer have visible people on board. The objects in the background seem fading in the foggy distance, making it impossible to distinguish a white sail from the white walls of the city. A white stone quay rises above the water surface. Parts of it are joined by a bridge made of the same white stone. The quay is separated from water by a tall embankment, with narrow stone stairs leading up to it from the water. In front of the stairs is the tallest building on the canvas. The narrow quay is bustling with people in colorful attires.
The background is occupied with buildings and city walls. Most of them are examples of the Dutch gothic: there are narrow facades with tall attics, spires and turrets. The centerpiece of this line of buildings lined along the water is a tall massive gateway tower. To its left, there is another tall building with curious statues along the rib of its vaulted roof. Around the third of the picture is occupied by the sky covered with gray-pink clouds.
The canvas came to Massandra palace from Kharkiv Museum of Fine Arts in 1957.
