The jeweler Evgeny Vasilievich Baranov has been a member of the Union of Artists of Russia since 1995. He was born in 1956 in the city of Polyarny, Murmansk Region. In 1980, he graduated from the Krasnoselsk School of Artistic Metalworking (a branch of the Moscow State Art and Industry Academy named after S.G. Stroganov). Since 1979, Evgeny Baranov has participated in numerous regional, all-Union and international exhibitions.
For more than 30 years, Evgeny Vasilievich has been creating jewelry, continuing to hone his skills on an everyday basis. The master made a career from an employee of the Kola Souvenir factory to a recognized jeweler capable of creating genuine works of art. The artist seeks to emphasize the beauty of the material and focuses on the sophistication of its processing.
The works of Evgeny Vasilievich Baranov are housed in the Murmansk Regional Art Museum and in private collections. The decorative dish “Novgorod” from the museum’s permanent exhibition introduces the viewer to the master’s early work in the technique of artistic processing of metal and natural stones.
The choice of the theme was not accidental. On June 23, 1983, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Novgorod was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor for the successes achieved by the working people of the city in economic and cultural construction, and for their active participation in the fight against the Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War.
At the early stages of the creative process, the artist tries to capture the main features, makes sketches, where he experiments with form, design and color. The collection of the Murmansk Regional Art Museum has a project completed by Evgeny Baranov — a sketch of the decorative dish “Novgorod”, which reflects the scale of work on the future product, the details of the technique and the amount of materials needed. With maximum precision, the sketch traces the elements of an openwork border executed in the filigree technique. The places of cabochons and landscape details of the center of the dish are filled with watercolors. The sketch also contains a technical diagram of the horizontal stand and a detailed record of the materials and technique.
