The cover of the music sheet from the museum collection is a cardboard binding, on the front side of which there is a diamond-shaped sticker with the embossed initials “M.B.”. The abbreviation means “Maria Blank”, according to the maiden initials of Maria Alexandrovna, the mother of Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov-Lenin. She changed her surname in 1863 when she became the wife of Ilya Nikolaevich Ulyanov. On the first sheet there is a pencil inscription: “M. Ulyanova”. On the title page there is a stamp: “A.B. Gutheil Music store, the commissioner of the Imperial theaters in Moscow”.

In an academic article, Lyudmila Ivanovna Kunetskaya, senior researcher at the museum “Lenin’s Office and Apartment at the Kremlin”, wrote,

The collection features sheet music of Gaetano Donizetti’s “The Daughter of the Regiment” (“La Fille du Régiment”) in two acts, which are adapted for piano performance.

The Italian composer created the opéra comique “The Daughter of the Regiment” in the late 1830s. The words for the musical and vocal work were written by two librettists from Paris: Jules Henri Vernois de Saint-Georges and Jean-François Bayard.
