Mikhail Viktorovich Lapin is a Murmansk painter, graphic artist, and teacher.
Born in the city of Kalinin (now Tver) on July 9, 1951. In the same year, the family moved to Murmansk. In 1973, Lapin graduated from the graphic arts department of the Leningrad State Pedagogical Institute named after A.I. Herzen.
From 1975 to 2006, Mikhail Viktorovich taught at the Children’s Art School of Murmansk, and from 1998 to 2009 — at the design department of the Murmansk branch of the Capital Academy of Finance and Humanities.
Participant of regional, all-Russian and international exhibitions since 1975.
Member of the Union of Artists of Russia since 1991, winner of the award of the Governor of the Murmansk region.
Mikhail Lapin traveled a lot. Often those were trips in search of creative ideas: along the Tersky coast, on the ships of the Murmansk Shipping Company to Dudinka, to an artists’ dacha in Goryachiy Klyuch. During the trips, he observed a lot and drew sketches, based on which he later created his artworks.
Works mainly in the genres of still life and landscape.
Despite specializing as a graphic artist, Mikhail Viktorovich experimented with painting techniques. While teaching in Murmansk, he developed an experimental program for the basics of watercolor technique in painting.
His small-scale works often immerse the viewer in the atmosphere of silence and solitude.
The painting “Still Life in the Studio” was created in a pictorial manner and serves as an illustration of a certain starting point in the artist’s work: when the painter starts work, in his workshop there are only tools and a clean background for new creative tasks, while the artist’s intention remains behind the scenes, ready in a few moments to be revealed to the world.
The works of Mikhail Viktorovich Lapin are housed in the collection of the Murmansk Regional Art Museum, in private collections in Russia and abroad. The Murmansk Regional Art Museum has works made in tempera and oil.
Currently, Mikhail Viktorovich Lapin lives in Saint Petersburg and continues to create new works.
