In the 1960s, Igor Chislenko was another symbol of Soviet football alongside Lev Yashin. A famous German apparel maker was honored to send Igor its new footwear models.

Chislenko became famous during the 1966 World Cup in the UK, scoring a series of outstanding goals that helped the Soviet squad make it into the semifinals. Local journalists called him ‘Little Chis. “While playing as an outside forward, he would move back and forth along the entire wing, which is common practice today, but was a novelty back in the day.

His brilliant career was cut short when he was only 29 years old. In a match against the Czechoslovakia Olympic team defender Vladimir Hagara intentionally hit Chislenko, aiming for his knee. Little Chis never fully recovered from the injury. He played for Dynamo Moscow for ten years, but was made redundant and later dismissed from the army with only one year left before he could claim a military pension.
