There is plenty of space for Mstyora miniature lacquer painting in the permanent museum exhibition. Fine art experts consider that its special features had a great influence on the development of creative style of Vladimir painting school representatives. The artists also asserted that repeatedly.
On the Fowl Farm
“Mstyora helped us to see magical beauty of our land. All of us (Vladimir leading painters) came to easel painting after Mstyora. Miniature made us familiar with mystery of nature and beauty, taught us to value every single centimeter of canvas, to avoid blank space which does not work in order to reveal the idea and emotional state of the landscape”.
Kim Britov, a people’s artist of RF
Mastery of Mstyora miniature lacquer painting passed from
one generation to another generation at Mstyora art
vocational school. Zonina Ekaterina Nikolaievna (1919- 2010), an honored
artist of RF, was among teachers of the school. She taught future specialists
for 28 years.
Famous artists of miniature lacquer painting: for example, the people’s artist of RF Vladislav Fedorovich Nekosov (born in 1940) and the honored artist of RF Moshkovich Vladimir Kapelievich (1946 -2018) were among her alumni.
Under Ekaterina Nikolaievna supervision the representative of Vladimir Painting School Valeriy Sergeevich Egorov learned the ropes of miniature lacquer painting. In memory of that he kept the small box with the motif of Pushkin’s poem “Demons” created in her workshop for all his life.
Ekaterina Zonina enthusiasm for the bylina and fairy tale theme and everyday peasant plot predominantly is a characteristic of her creativity. The small box “On the Fowl Farm” belongs to the late period of her creativity when the author paid much attention to painting of productive work pleasures and gave priority to many-figured compositions.
So, the artist depicted 49 roosters and hens of various breeds and various coloration on this small box the dimension of which is only 14×17 cm. Zonina’s small box is a brilliant example of Mstyora miniature lacquer painting with its ornamental patterns and unity of color variety.
