Alexander Nikolaevich Yeryomin was born in Kostroma in 1960. He became interested in sculpture at an early age, and he even went to an art school because of this passion. This was followed by him enrolling in the Art and Graphic Faculty of the Kostroma State Pedagogical Institute, from which he graduated in 1985.

His development as an artist was greatly influenced by his internship trips to the Kardovsky House for Artists in Pereslavl-Zalessky. There he happened to meet the Moscow sculptor Valery Andreevich Yevdokimov who was the curator of the house from 1990 to 2019 and played a significant role in the formation of the young sculptor.

Alexander Yeryomin began to exhibit his works while studying at the Institute. In 1987 and 1988, he took an active part in experimental exhibitions of young artists. In 1989 he took part in the exhibition of 20 Kostroma artists called “Synthesis”. In 1993, Yeryomin became a member of the Union of Russian Artists.

Yeryomin was always interested in decorative sculpture — mainly small forms. In his sculptures he used a variety of materials: ceramics, stone, metal, but most often — wood. In many of his works he used a combination of these materials.

The originality and style of Yeryomin’s sculptures were largely influenced by his passion for the history and culture of different ethnic groups, interest in legends, myths and fairy tales. The artist was often inspired by religious and folk traditions. The sculptor admitted: “I do not depict gods — I depict the human perception of faith and religion.”

The museum presents “Myth” — a decorative panel by Alexander Yeryomin. This work is based on the myth of the Earth’s creation. One can recognize that the artist was inspired by the ancient Greek concept, according to which the goddess of Earth, Gaia, was the first of the deities to emerge from the primordial Chaos.

In the composition, the brass plate symbolizes Chaos. The intricate stains on its surface, which spontaneously formed as a result of burning chips of wood, served as the driving force behind the creation of this work.
