Tamara Zubkova was born into an artistic family. Her father, Ivan Zubkov, was one of the founders of the Artel of Ancient Painting, an Honored Artist of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic and a laureate of Ilya Repin State Prize.
She significantly contributed to the development of Palekh miniature. Her works were mainly inspired by songs. Tamara Zubkova chose both folk compositions and bard songs composed in the USSR. Like many Palekh artists, she could sing well and at the same time depicted song plots on the surface of black lacquer boxes with great delicacy.
The painting on the chest ‘There is no better blossom’ presents various lyrics by prominent Soviet poet Mikhail Isakovsky. The artist placed fragments from his songs in the lower part of the chest, making them part of the ornamental composition.
