The centaur is one of Ernst Neizvestny’s favourite subjects. Over his long life, the sculptor created hundreds of centaurs of various shapes and sizes. The most famous of them is the Great Centaur in the park opposite the Palace of Nations in Geneva. The exhibit displayed here differs from the other centaurs inasmuch as it is smaller.
To Neizvestny, the centaur embodied a merger of nature and engineering, a dialogue of humanity and brutality. The centaur means strength and power, but above everything else, it means a dialogue of all that is earthbound, the idea of fighting between the spiritual and human essence.
