A 3-stringed instrument. The body, neck and pegbox are made of ivory and light-colored wood. The body’s back side is decorated with ivory, yellow metal and mother-of peral mosaic.
This instrument is a part of Persian (Iranian) instruments collection, donated to the Museum by the Empress Maria Fyodorovna, a widow of Alexander II in 1907. This gorgeous collection is dated to the 18th — early 19th centuries. The collection has been exhibited in a specially designed showcase. The instruments are elaborately decorated with painting, gold leaf, a mosaic set of metal, tinted bone and mother-of-pearl.
