The painting “View of Homeland” was donated to the Akhmad Kadyrov Museum by the artist Alexander Shilov himself. It was timed to coincide with an important event in the history of Grozny: in 2015, the capital of the republic was awarded the honorary title “City of Military Glory”. A 13-meters-high memorial stele was installed in Grozny. In the same year, a commemorative 10-ruble coin dedicated to this event was released, as well as a postage stamp with views of the city a year later.
Alexander Shilov depicted a wide calm river with trees all over its hilly shores. The background shows the roofs of residential buildings and the domes of the Orthodox church behind the dense crowns. There is a path going down to the water.
Alexander Shilov was born on March 24, 1974, in Moscow, in a family of artists. From the age of 11, he studied painting at the Vasily Surikov Moscow Secondary Art School. In 1991, Shilov entered the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography, where he received a degree in production design. Later he graduated from other two higher educational institutions: the Academic Law University at the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and then the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after Vasily Surikov.
One of the legendary Rothschild family representatives tried to buy all the paintings of Alexander Shilov. But the artist decided that his works should remain in Russia and refused the offer.

In 2005, Alexander Shilov was accepted into the Moscow branch of the Artists’ Union. In 2006, he became an adviser to the Section of Humanities and Creativity of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. And a year later, several of Shilov’s paintings were sent aboard the International Space Station: psychologists from the Cosmonaut Training Center decided that views of St. Petersburg, the Moscow region and villages of the Vladimir region would help the ISS crew minimize the emotional stress. At the request of the cosmonauts themselves, the paintings were later sent to the station again, and Shilov thus became the only artist in the world whose solo exhibition was held in space twice.
