History paintings occupy an important place in the work of artist Bagaudin Sagov. The master often turns to the past of his people, creating paintings on this subject. One of them, the genre painting “Waiting”, is displayed in the museum.
To the left of the center of the canvas, Sagov depicted a man sitting in an armchair. His face is slightly turned to the left. A rifle hangs on the wall above him, flanked by two daggers. A bow hangs on the left side of the canvas above the headboard. One can see a kazan (a large cooking pot), in which food is being prepared, in the stone stove to the right of the man’s figure. In the foreground, the artist painted a table and two chairs.
Bagaudin Sagov used to say about his works: “Paintings on historical themes have a special place in my art, I paint them with great pleasure. I think that the connoisseurs of my art have noticed it, because I have never concealed the fact that I have always been interested in the history and fate of my people.”
Art historians classify the canvas “Waiting” as a lyrical painting. Sagov with great care and warmth depicted a familiar to him interior and objects used in everyday life, such as dishes, a carpet on the wall, a kazan boiling on the fire.
For his paintings, the artist constantly looks for new subjects, experimenting with colors and composition. In addition to history paintings, Sagov creates portraits, landscapes and still lifes, as well as sculptures.
Bagaudin Sagov was born December 15, 1960 in the town of Nazran, Checheno-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. He finished an art school for children in 1973. In 1983, he entered the Perm Art School and was a regular participant in student exhibitions. Nowadays, Sagov works in his studio in the village of Ordzhonikidzevskaya.
This famous Ingush artist was one of the founders of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Ingushetia. He worked as the Headmaster of the Sunzhenskaya Children’s Art School when, in 1993, he was approached by Said Chakhkiev, then Minister of Culture of Ingushetia, with a proposal to establish a museum. Works of Ingush artists that had been housed in the Grozny Museum of Fine Arts were irretrievably lost during military actions. Therefore, the museum’s collection had to be built up from scratch.
Since 1995, Bagaudin Sagov’s paintings have been often displayed at art exhibitions in the Chechen Republic and in other cities. For many years he was also engaged in teaching: in 2018 an exhibition of paintings created by his students was held.
