The painting “Horses” was created by Russian artist Nikolay Zaitsev in 1996. It is a landscape that features elements of animalistic art.
In the central part of the canvas, the artist depicted a rectangular pen with horses, which stretches from the foreground to the background. Tall trees frame the pen. Above the corral, the artist painted a strip of a high sky with rare clouds. In the foreground, a gray horse is painted in motion, while other animals are depicted in static poses.
Contemporaries call Nikolay Zaitsev a master of romantic realism. The following was written about him in the catalog of the Russian Gallery of Art: “Nikolay Yegorovich Zaitsev is one of the most fascinating artists of his time. Looking at his paintings, the whimsical combination of colors and soft shades of different states of nature, you realize that this art speaks, speaks in the voice of our native land, with its discreet, but dear to the heart beauty”.
In his works, the artist adheres to the basic canons of the Russian Realist painting: he strives for authenticity and naturalism, focusing on details and color. Following the tradition of romantic realism, Zaitsev endows his paintings with emotionality and a mood that will be understandable to the viewer.
