The antique cabinet with carved decorations consists of two sections. The upper section has one glazed door, and the lower section has two doors. Sergeyev-Tsensky stored his manuscripts in this cabinet. Nowadays, it contains his awards.

In March 1941, Sergey Sergeyev-Tsensky was awarded the Stalin Prize, 1st degree. In 1939, he was awarded the Badge of Honor on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his writing career. On his 70th birthday, he was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the medal “For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945” for the works written during the Great Patriotic War. The writer got his second Order of the Red Banner of Labor on his 75th birthday, and on his 80th birthday he received the highest government award — the Order of Lenin.

At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, Sergeyev-Tsensky left Crimea for three years. Before his departure, he said,

He fulfilled his promise, creating books and articles that raised the morale of Soviet soldiers in the fight against the fascist invaders.

In the works of that period, Sergeyev-Tsensky made it his job to debunk the myth about the invincibility of the Germans. The brilliant novel “Brusilov’s Breakthrough” is a great example of the writer’s success in that regard.

The readers are captivated by his short stories about events in the military and civilian lives. The story of a married couple of doctors from Alushta in“The Old Doctor” tells a tragic tale of resisting the fascists that occupied the resort town. The story “The Quick-Witted Girl” is a testament to the courage and bravery of a young teenage nurse.

In his short story “In the Snows”, Sergeyev-Tsensky described the heroic deed of the flying ace Zakhar Sorokin. He was the first to accomplish a feat requiring incredible courage and iron will. Six months before Alexey Maresyev’s similar ordeal, Sorokin was shot down: the wounded pilot spent six days in the Arctic tundra, walking about 70 kilometers to reach the Soviet troops and receiving severe frostbite. Both of his feet were amputated. Despite that, he would later find the strength to master flying with prostheses.
