More than 9 thousand soldiers and officers were deployed from Bashkortostan to Afghanistan. 342 people died; 6 people went missing. About 450 were wounded, more than 1.2 thousand soldiers were decorated with medals and orders for courage.
Today there are several public organizations working on the territory of Russia and the republic. The goal of these organizations is to perpetuate the memory of the those who died and to help the veterans. Memorial plaques have been installed in districts and cities; monuments have been erected. The ‘Combat Height’ newspaper is being published.
