The main theme of Maillol’s art
#7
The main theme of Maillol’s art is the female figure. His sculptures combine the modernity of shape with the classical tradition, which he mastered in the early 20th century.

Ensemble of four statues
#4
In this ensemble of four statues – Flora, Spring, Summer, and Pomona – the female figures acquire both significance and generality. These allegorical bronze female figures are an anthem to beauty. They embody the ideas of fertility, harmony, and joy. The delicate Spring and young, slender Flora symbolize the awakening of nature’s forces. Summer is in a relaxed pose. Her mature figure displays the sensation of summer languor, fulfillment, and harmony of existence. The statue of Pomona, the earth goddess, has firm shapes that are similar to the ripe fruit in her hands.
