KPF-1 boxes were being manufactured at the Krasnogorsk Mechanical Plant from 1960 to 1966. They were produced for Zenit-3M SLR cameras. The box weighed 2.4 kg.
It was a time of mass enthusiasm for underwater photography, so the demand for boxes was high. There were both industrial models (UKP, KPF, FFT) and non-industrial designs manufactured by amateurs. The bodies of such boxes were cast from a special light alloy that would not deteriorate in sea water and were covered with a special anti-corrosion paint. The wall thickness was 3-4 mm. The handles were moulded within the box as a whole single piece. The camera inside was attached by two springs that pressed it against the back wall of the box. A plane-parallel glass was placed in front of the camera lens in the box body.
