The Virgin is depicted waist-length. The full-face Child is seated upon her left hand; he is holding a large scroll in his hand. In the upper corners against a golden background, one can see waist-length images of the archangels with staffs in their hands; the left angel is dressed in light-lilac garments and the right one — in greenish ones.

This image is a widespread 15th-century iconographical variant of ‘The Virgin Hodegetria’ with half-length angels typical for Moscow. It was created by the Moscow’s painter who also painted “Dormition with Clouds” from the Local tier of the iconostasis in the Dormition Cathedral (according to the researcher O.V. Lelekova, probably by the creator of the blue group of feasts). In the 16th century, the icon was decorated with a silver cover with stamping adorned with pearls, precious and semi-precious stones.

The icon was restored by Y.I. Bryagin in the Central State Restoration Workshop in 1919-1920.
