#2
This painting is from the peak of Ernst Neuschul’s artistic life, when, after his studies at academies of fine arts in Prague and Vienna and his travels throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, and America, he settled in Berlin in 1922. His solo exhibitions were held in Berlin in 1927 and 1932. Police confiscated his artworks at the last exhibition. Neuschul developed the traditions of realistic art, addressing current topics of the life of the working class.

“German Millet”
#3
Critics compared his works with the art of Jean-Francois Millet, calling him the “German Millet”. The Berlin revolutionary group “Die Rote Fahne” and its leader tried to channel his creativity into the tradition of Socialist Realism. Being an anti-fascist, Neuschul moved to Czechia in 1934. In 1935, he visited the USSR. He had a solo exhibition at the State Museum of New Western Art in Moscow, where this work was presented. At that time, Neuschul made a trip along the southern shore of Crimea and received orders for a number of paintings.
