The composition ‘Adoration of the Magi’ of the Ikos 5 of the Akathist to the Blessed Virgin Mary is presented on the fresco and it starts with the lines: ‘The sons of the Chaldees saw in the hands of the Virgin Him Who with His hand made man. And knowing Him to be the Master, even though He had taken the form of a servant, they hastened to serve Him with gifts, and to cry to Her Who is blessed ….’ On the background of a building with a triangular cornice there is a depiction of the Mother of God with the Christ Child on a throne without a back and three of the Magi leaning toward Her. They bring gifts to the Savior: gold (as to King), incense (as to God) and myrrh for anointing the body of the deceased (indicating the coming death of Christ on the Cross) (Matt. 2:11).

General information:
The Akathist Hymn is one of the most well-loved services of devotion in the Orthodox Church. The Akathist to the Holy Virgin is a praise hymn in Her honor, composed in Byzantium between the 5th and 7th centuries. In the Russian tradition of authorship is attributed to Venerable Roman the Melodist (6th century). The cycle of illustrations of Akathist is traditionally included in the decoration system of the Virgin temples and temples dedicated to other people and events. In ancient Russian monumental painting of the 16th–17th centuries, it is often adjacent to the cycle of the Protoevangelium of James.
