Pisarev А.I.

Alexey Pisarev was born in 1909 in Voronezh, but spent most of his life in Moscow. His works are kept in the Tretyakov Gallery, State Historical Museum, Museum of History and Reconstruction of Moscow, as well as in private collections around the world.

In 1928, the artist entered the Voronezh Art and Industry College in the workshop of Alexander Buchkuri, a unique artist, a student of Ilya Repin. Two years later, Pisarev moved to the capital and continued his studies at the Moscow Art School. After that, from 1934 to 1939, the artist studied at refresher courses for artists at the Moscow Art Institute. He was taught by professionals of Soviet painting and graphics: Boris Ioganson, Konstantin Istomin and Alexander Moravov.

When the Great Patriotic War began, Pisarev volunteered for the frontline duty, and returned home only in 1945. The artist served as a captain of the mine and field engineer battalion and received the Order of the Red Star, as well as the Medal For Courage.

After the war, Pisarev returned to art: he worked a lot in the landscape genre, and also participated in exhibitions of the Moscow Union of Artists and executed two large-format canvases commissioned by the Museum of Earth Science under the Moscow State University. The artist’s nephew Heinrich Padva wrote: “It is a rare case to meet such people so devoted to art — he painted, painted and painted for all his life. Even at the frontline, Aleksey Ivanovich joined the party and was a communist, but at the same time he did not engage in politics at all. He portrayed neither leaders nor revolutionary plots, but painted landscapes, as a rule. A lot of his paintings are about old Moscow, and the Kremlin”.

Pisarev combined his creative activity with social work: he was chairman of the board of the Moscow branch of the Art Fund of the RSFSR, and then deputy chairman of the board of the Union of Artists in the capital.

The artist created the painting “Evening” in 1954. It depicts a typical landscape of central Russia: a high river bank, a meadow, reflections of the rays of the setting sun, which make their way through cumulus clouds. The artist subtly conveyed the play of light in the sky, on the surface of the river and on summer greenery. In this work, the painter used one of his favorite techniques — Pisarev created the effect of depth by contrasting rich muted colors in the foreground and light colors in the background.

The artist’s widow Margarita Anisimova donated the painting ‘Evening’ to Tikhon Khrennikov, and in 2004 the work was donated to the house-museum.
