The museum’s collection was based on minerals and rocks, as well as a collection of cold ceremonial and decorated weapons. Since 1833, the museum has been located in the halls on the upper floor of the stone Arsenal.
The museum enjoyed a new lease on life in the 1920s. The Zlatoust District Museum was moved to a small room of the Zlatoust Mechanical and Metallurgical College. Later, the museum received a new building with an area of 480 square meters, that used to be occupied by carpentry workshops.
In 1929, the Zlatoust District Museum was transferred to the building of the Holy Trinity Cathedral, where it stayed for four years. Since 1933, the museum has been situated in the former house of the mining chief.
The Zlatoust City Museum of Local Lore displays unique decorated edged weapons, made by Zlatoust craftsmen of the first half of the 19th century, Damascus steel products, iron art castings of the Kusa and Kasli factories, and works of modern craftsmen, which were made following the traditions of Zlatoust metal engraving.
The museum houses 80,000 units. It also has sections dedicated to art, history, and nature.
