The Zavolzhsk Museum is housed in a former residential building of local industrialists — the Burnaev-Kurochkins. This building is a historical and cultural monument. In its design, it vaguely resembles a Western European castle.
The Zavolzhsk Museum opened in 1986. At that time, there were three different exhibitions at the museum. One of them was dedicated to the scientist and astronomer Fyodor Aleksandrovich Bredikhin, the other chronicled the history of a local chemical plant, and the third — an artistic one — appeared thanks to the People’s Artist of Russia Vladimir Nikitovich Telin. On his initiative, the Union of Artists presented the town with a collection of works of art, which formed the museum’s collection. In memory of Vladimir Telin, the festival “Vershinino Plein Air” was established in 2016. Every year it gathers artists from all over the country.
In 2007, the Zavolzhsk
Museum received the status of a municipal institution. Since 2014, the
International Conference “Bredikhin Readings” has been held at the museum. The
Zavolzhsk Museum also runs a local history club and publishes books on the
history of the town and the district.
