The National Pushkin Museum is the oldest Russian museum dedicated to Alexander Pushkin. It traces its history back to the first museum of the poet, opened at the Imperial Lyceum in Tsarskoe Selo on October 19, 1879.
The museum houses a unique collection that has been growing and developing for decades. A plethora of iconographic artifacts, memorial items, paintings, historical and everyday materials are displayed in the museum. They allow the visitors to immerse themselves in the world of Russian history and culture of the 18thand 19thcenturies.
The unique museum complex
includes: the Pushkin Apartment Museum, the Nekrasov Apartment Museum, the
Literary Monographic Exhibition “Alexander Pushkin. Life and Creative Work”,
the Gavrila Derzhavin Estate Museum, the Pushkin Country House Museum, the
Memorial Lyceum Museum. The first four occupy an exceptional place in the
system of Pushkin museums in Russia and present a complete picture of the life
and work of the great poet.
