The Volgodonsk Museum of Nature and History was founded as the folk museum of local lore in February 1969. Its collection has grown to include over 125,000 artifacts that reflect the history of Volgodonsk and the eastern areas of Rostov Oblast.
The museum collection is varied and diverse. It includes ancient books, icons, archeological finds, coins, devices, mechanisms, films, audio recordings, documents, photographs, paintings, drawings, works of decorative and applied art, cold arms, and firearms. These items represent the spiritual and material culture of the Don Cossacks and other people who lived in the eastern area of the Don River region.
