The Military Medical Museum opened its doors in Moscow on November 12, 1942. Two years later, the museum was moved to Leningrad. Today, it is located in the historical center of Saint Petersburg — on the territory of the Semyonovsky Lifeguard Regiment.
The museum contains about half a million items. These include rare books and documents, medical tools, medications, military and civilian medical uniforms, and anatomical specimens. The museum houses the personal belongings of Nikolay Pirogov, Sergey Botkin, Ivan Pavlov, Vladimir Bekhterev, and other renowned doctors and scientists.
In the museum halls, there are many photographs depicting medical professionals during the war and in peacetime, as well as paintings and statues dedicated to doctors. The museum features the Patriotic Museum Complex “Medicine and the Great Victory”. It includes the Museum of Siege Medicine, the Museum in Memory of Victims of Nazism, and the Peaceful Instruments of Victory Exhibition Area.
