Varnavino Museum of History and Art

Since it first opened in 1971, Varnavino Museum of History and Art has turned from a local lore museum into a modern exhibition platform, where Russian, Soviet and modern Russian culture can exist in harmony, while being mutually complementary. Today the museum’s building is the neat red-brick mansion built in the 1880s, the former main building of the merchant Selivanov’s estate. Here you can get acquainted with the way of life of the old Varnavino nobility and peasants, view a detailed model of the lost Trinity-Varnavinsky Monastery or visit the Picture Gallery with its diverse collection of paintings, mainly dedicated to the territory of Povetluzhje.
