Unecha Local History Museum

#1

The Unecha Local Lore Museum was founded in 1987 to mark the 100th anniversary of the town of Unecha. It is housed in a historic 1930s building originally constructed as a bank and later expanded. On January 24, 1989, it was officially designated a branch of the Bryansk State Historical Museum.

The first director was Anatoly Vitalievich Zhidenkov, an enthusiastic local historian and Honored Builder of Russia.

Since 2001, the museum has been led by Natalia Alexandrovna Golik, a professional historian.

On January 1, 2014, the museum attained the status of a municipal cultural institution. Today, it features four permanent exhibition halls dedicated to the ancient history of the region, the Soviet era, and the natural environment. It also includes an exhibition hall for temporary exhibitions and projects.

The museum has long played a vital role in the cultural life of the region. It actively develops programs in museum pedagogy, undertakes historical research, and carries out publishing initiatives. The institution collaborates with search teams, artists, and bard musicians. For the past 16 years, it has organized the annual scientific conference, bringing together historians and local lore scholars from Russia, Belarus, Serbia, and Bulgaria. The proceedings of each conference are compiled and published annually.
