The House of M.I. Muravyov-Apostol in Yalutorovsk is the only museum in Tyumen region dedicated to the Decembrists. The museum’s most important exhibit is the old house itself, which was built in 1795. For 20 years it was the home of the former lieutenant-colonel Matvey Muravyov-Apostol, exiled Decembrist, aristocrat and hero of the 1812 Patriotic War.
Three of the rooms in the house have now been restored: the reception room, study and living room. Here visitors can see domestic items, writing equipment, accessories and other personal items belonging to the Decembrists and members of their families. The museum’s collection also includes a letter to future generations, written by Matvey Muravyov-Apostol.
