Taganrog Museum of Architecture and Urbanism is a branch of the Taganrog Museum Group. It is housed in a unique building that resembles a scaled-down version of the Moscow Yaroslavsky Railway Station. This Art Nouveau mansion was constructed in 1912. Its façade is decorated with a colorful majolica frieze produced by the Abramtsevo Pottery Factory.
The majolica panels were created according to the designs created by the leading artists of the Russian Silver Age — Mikhail Alexandrovich Vrubel, Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov, and Natalya Yakovlevna Davydova. The pillars of the entrance gate are decorated with ceramic masks of Libyan lionesses.
The museum opened its doors in 1981. The two floors of the mansion house a large-scale exhibition titled “A Time-Lapse Portrait of the City.” It presents over 400 unique exhibits from the museum collection.
